Synopsis | This symposium will explore the evolving role of supplementary parenteral nutrition (SPN) in oncology care, with a focus on Singapore’s clinical practices. Prof Stanislaw Klek will highlight recent innovations in lipid emulsions, amino acid solutions, and micronutrient supplementation that enhance immune function, reduce inflammation, and support recovery in cancer patients. The session will emphasise the clinical benefits of early SPN initiation and its synergy with enteral nutrition (EN). Additionally, it will address current barriers to SPN adoption and advocate for a more proactive, multidisciplinary approach to nutritional care in oncology. | |

Dr Doris Ng, Singapore
Dr Doris Ng, MBBChBAO(Hons), PhD, is a Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist and Director of Nutrition Support Services at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Singapore. She is the current President of the Parenteral and Enteral Society of Asia (PENSA) and serves as the Organising Chair of the PENSA Congress 2025. Dr Ng is also the President of the Singapore Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SingSPEN) and she is instrumental in the establishment and development of SingSPEN since it was founded on 10 years ago. |

Prof Stanislaw Klek, Poland
Prof Stanislaw Klek, MD, PHD, is a specialist in general and cancer surgery. He works as the Head of the Surgical Oncology Clinic as well as Medical Director at the National Cancer Institute in Krakow. He is also the Head of the Intestinal Failure Center at Stanley Dudrick’s Memorial Hospital in Skawina, Poland Stanislaw Klek is the Chairman of the European Society for Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (ESPEN, term: 2024-2028). He was one of the first recipients of the European ESPEN Diploma (2010) and one of the first ESPEN LLL Teachers (2008). Associate Editor for Clinical Nutrition (since 2013). Chairman of the International Section of American Society for Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ASPEN, 2018-20) and President of the 41s ESPEN Congress in 2019. Prof Stanislaw has published more than 230 original articles, 30 case reports, 18 book chapters, and over 150 congress abstracts. |

A/Prof Samuel Chew, Singapore A/Prof Samuel Chew completed his undergraduate medical training in Dublin, Ireland, in 1997 and pursued his specialist training in internal and geriatric medicine in Birmingham, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh, and the Academy of Medicine, Singapore. He has a strong passion for delivering evidence-based care to older adults, with clinical interests spanning acute geriatric medicine, geriatric rehabilitation, and the management of multimorbidity, malnutrition, and sarcopenia in ambulatory settings. A/Prof Chew is also actively involved in clinical teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His current research focuses on nutrition and muscle health in older adults, contributing to the advancement of geriatric medicine in Singapore. |

Prof Philipp Schütz, Switzerland
Prof Philipp Schüetz is a board-certified internist, endocrinologist, and clinical nutrition specialist. Born in Switzerland, he studied Medicine in Switzerland and Paris. He currently heads the Department of Medicine at Kantonsspital Aarau and holds a professorship in Medicine and Endocrinology/Nutrition at the University of Basel. Prof Schüetz also serves as President of both the Swiss Society of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism (GESKES) and the Federal Commission for Nutrition in Switzerland. His academic contributions include over 300 publications in leading journals such as The Lancet, JAMA, and Annals of Internal Medicine. He is the recipient of a prestigious research professorship from the Swiss National Science Foundation and is the principal investigator of the EFFORT I and II trials—the largest randomized controlled studies to date investigating the impact of clinical nutrition in hospitalized and post-discharge patients. His research aims to advance personalized nutrition through better patient phenotyping and the identification of nutritional biomarkers to guide therapy and improve outcomes. |
